Broadway at the Beach is a one-stop destination for eats, treats and entertainment

Broadway at the Beach is what it is – a giant magnetic festival entertainment complex designed to draw millions into its massive enclaves set on 350 acres in Myrtle Beach.

It is the one destination frequented by tourists and locals with unrestrained enthusiasm and anticipation of what awaits them. Guests of the Ocean Reef Resort are among the people who realize Broadway at the Beach has its own unique appeal.

There are more than 20 restaurants, 100 specialty shops, nightclubs, diverse attractions and hotels, all of which surrounds the 23-acre Lake Broadway. In addition, there are four theaters – The Palace Theatre (home to Le Grand Cirque, singing legends, Christmas shows, musical productions and more), Legends In Concert (where celebrities, living and dead, are impersonated by entertainers), Carmike Cinema-Broadway 17 and the new BIGD, which has a screen more than 82 feet wide and three stories high and presents films in 2D and 3D.

On any given day, newbie tourists from across the country and around the globe come to Broadway at the Beach and attempt to explore all that is here. They soon find out, however, that there is way too much to conquer in one day. Broadway at the Beach has to be discovered in parts.

The amount of restaurants alone is staggering. There are fun eats sold at places like Auntie Anne’s (home of gourmet soft pretzels), Cupcakes by Cravinley’s (miniature, homemade delights) and River Street Sweets (a confectionery of goodies including chocolate, caramel and other candies, including taffy, all of which are made on the premises). Dining options include Key West Grill (an eatery offering steaks, seafood, Caribbean fare and pasta dishes among other favorites) and theme eateries like Johnny Rockets, where burgers and fries are served up along with song and dance from members of the wait staff.

Higher-than-usual calorie consumption shouldn’t make folks feel guilty here because walking around Broadway at the Beach will certainly burn off some calories. From exploring the plethora of stores selling everything from designer jeans to trendy sunglasses, visitors will have no problem staying in motion. If they want an extra workout, they can dance off calories at Celebrity Square, a nightclub district with a diverse selection of clubs that covers about 75,000 square feet.
