Easter Mass, Events Scheduled for Myrtle Beach Catholic Churches

Spring has arrived on the Grand Strand, and that means Easter is right around the corner. The Grand Strand boats several Catholic churches that will be holding special services and festivities to celebrate the holiday.

Easter egg hunts are scheduled throughout the week to give the little ones a chance to have a good time, and special Masses will be held throughout the weekend to give everyone the chance to worship. Special sunrise services and late-night masses are available at different church locations. Here’s a look at the Easter schedule for several local Catholic churches:

* Our Lady Star of the Sea: Located in North Myrtle Beach, this church will host Good Friday Service at 5 p.m., Vigil at 5 p.m. Saturday, and Easter Mass at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., noon, and 1:45 p.m. (Spanish). Daily mass is held at 8 a.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, visit www.olssnmb.com.

 * Precious Blood of Christ: Located in Pawleys Island, this historic church gets the Easter festivities started early with its annual Easter Egg Hunt and Bake Sale on Palm Sunday, March 29 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Founders Hall. Special Easter masses will be held on Good Friday evening, followed by special masses at 5 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday. For more information, call www.pbocchurch.com.

* St. Andrew of Myrtle Beach: Located in Myrtle Beach at the corner of Kings Highway and 37th Avenue North, this massive church will hold several services during the holiday season. Good Friday services will be held at 9 a.m., noon, 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. (Spanish).  On Saturday, Tenebrae will be held at 9 a.m., followed by the Blessing of the Easter at noon and food at 1 p.m. Easter Vigil Mass is set for 8:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Andrew. On Sunday, services relocate to the Palace Theatre at Broadway at the Beach to accommodate the larger crowds. Easter Mass is scheduled for 8 a.m., 10 a.m., and noon Sunday, followed by a 5 p.m. Easter Spanish Mass back at the church. For more information, visit www.standrewcatholicchurch.org.

* St. James the Younger: Located in historic downtown Conway, this church will hold numerous services for the holiday. Good Friday observances include Stations of the Cross at noon and the Liturgy of the Passion and Death of Our Lord at 3 p.m. Easter Vigil will be held at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by Easter Masses at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.stjamesconway.org.

 * St. Michael: Located in Garden City Beach, this church will hold special Easter services and events for the whole family. Good Friday features Live Stations of the Cross at 2 and 6 p.m., followed by The Lord's Passion. Saturday's annual Easter Egg Hunt get under way at 9 a.m., followed by the Blessing of Easter dinner at 10 a.m., and Easter Vigil Mass at 8:30 p.m. On Sunday, Easter Masses are scheduled for 7 a.m., 9 a.m., and 11 a.m. For more information, visit www.saintmichaelsc.net.
