With the summer behind us and the fall months setting in, it’s time for typical fall activities. One of the most exciting parts of fall for kids and fans of all things scary is Halloween – a night on which you can get a socially acceptable sugar rush and dress as any person or thing you please. Even before the big night, as October progresses, scary movies and haunted houses start opening up for nights full of screams and scares. Here are some ideas to consider when looking for the perfect Halloween-themed events to attend during your October stay at Myrtle Beach’s Ocean Reef Resort.

One of the most beloved Halloween activities is, of course, to go trick-or-treating and fill a plastic pumpkin to the brim with sweet treats and toys! If your children are looking for a family-friendly place to go trick-or-treating during your time in Myrtle Beach, many of the town’s hottest attractions will be giving out candy and special treats to all children in costume. Broadway at the Beach (4:40-6:30 p.m. on Oct. 31), Barefoot Landing (5-7 p.m. on Oct. 31) and The Market Common (5-7 p.m. on Oct. 31) are just a few of the places where participating stores will be giving out the sweetest treats on Halloween night! And don’t forget to stop by the front desk on your way back to your room at the Ocean Reef to get another treat for being such a great guest!

If you are more into the scarier side of Halloween, definitely check out some of the haunted houses, ghost tours, and other thrilling activities that are scattered around the Grand Strand. A few of the most notable places are Terror Under the Bridge, which turns a huge Conway warehouse into one of the scariest haunted houses in the area, and the Dr. Screams Haunted Attractions, which boast two locations – Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing – and a new theme each year, so there is no telling what is around the next corner! There are also events that more suitable for younger children, such as the Boo-Quarium at Ripley’s Aquarium and the Boo Bash at the Children’s Museum of South Carolina.

Just because summer is over, that doesn’t mean that the festivals are behind us! During the Halloween season, you can find festivals galore for the whole family. For example, on the weekend before Halloween, head on over to the Myrtle Beach Convention Center for a day full of costume contests, raffles, carnival games, rides, and, of course, treats galore!

With everything going on in the Myrtle Beach area during October, it’s going to be hard to choose just a few of these perfect events for your Halloween getaway! We can’t wait to see you and help you celebrate all that fall has to offer at Ocean Reef Resort.
