To start your morning, The Market Common is holding its ever-popular Independence Day 5K and 8K races, so you can start your holiday off on the right foot! These two races will start in the beautiful Valor Park and take participants through a little bit of the city before ending right back in The Market Common. There are prizes courtesy of Brooks Running and Black Dog Running for the top male and female finishers in each race, but many people enter just for the fun and fitness aspects of the races. To take part in this early morning fun, visit the event website to register online, or just show up at The Market Common between 6 and 7:20 a.m. on the day of the race.
After you are done speeding past your competitors, check out one of the parades taking place throughout the day on the Grand Strand. Maybe head to Pawleys Island for the 51st Annual 4th of July Parade that kicks off at 10 a.m., or check out the Conway Riverfest Golf Cart Parade, which gets rolling at 11:30 a.m. — there really is something for everyone to enjoy.
At 1 p.m., head on down to the Atlantic beaches to find one of the biggest patriotic celebrations around. The main attractions at the 7th Annual Salute from the Shore are the vintage aircraft and Shaw Air Force Base F-16 fighter jets that will fly over the South Carolina coastline, bringing a lot of oohs and aahs from everyone in the crowd! You and your family can even contribute your own patriotic salute to all of our brave troops by uploading a picture or video at salutefromtheshore.org.
Nothing says July 4th quite like the spectacular fireworks shows that light up the entire night sky on the Grand Strand. To cap off this holiday, check out the pyrotechnics displays at popular local venues such as Broadway at the Beach, Pelicans Ballpark and the Cherry Grove Pier to be dazzled by the sights and sounds that people love to see on any hot summer night, especially this one. 10 p.m. — Second Avenue Pier — Myrtle Beach on the ocean
10 p.m. — Murrells Inlet MarshWalk — On the water in Murrells Inlet
