In the summer, there are days when the temperature might be sweltering, but weather and water conditions – such as high winds and riptides – make swimming in the ocean unsafe. While the beach may not be a great idea on days like this, there are still plenty of ways to cool off on the Grand Strand. There are a number of water parks scattered around the Myrtle Beach area that will serve just as well as the beach when it comes to cooling everyone off. Check out these three area favorites – and get cooled off quick!

Typically, when people think of water parks, they envision pools and a lot of slides, but this Myrtle Beach favorite features much more! One of the biggest water parks around Myrtle Beach is Wild Water & Wheels, which offers some of the best waterslides, go-karting and mini golf in town. Cool off in the water by sliding down one of the attraction’s many waterslides on a mat or inflatable tube, or take a lap around the lazy river. When you’re done, you can dry off by laying out in your own private cabana with your group, or race your friends around the huge go-kart track. Another great perk of this wonderful park is the deal you can get when you visit. Reduced-price admission to the park is available every day starting at 2 p.m., and prices keep going down after that. Also, on Fridays, they have a DJ, fun family games and special events going on to make your visit even better!

If you are looking for more of a traditional water park, Myrtle Waves is definitely the right place for you! This spectacular water park – South Carolina’s largest – features over 20 acres of water attractions, ranging from group tube slides with twists and turns, to strictly body slides with sudden drops and dips built for one. They also have multiple wave pools, a lazy river and a water playground for kids, complete with water guns and cannons so your little ones can have the ultimate water war.

Located in the heart of downtown Myrtle Beach, Splashes Oceanfront Water Park offers waterslides and other aquatic attractions just a stone’s throw from the beach – making it the only water park on the Grand Strand with unobstructed views of the Atlantic Ocean. A sister property to the Family Kingdom amusement park, Splashes provides wet and wild excitement with easy access to the go-kart tracks and other attractions located directly across the street. In fact, combo passes for full use of the water park and unlimited rides at the amusement park are available at a discounted rate.

Even when the visit to the water park is complete, the wet and wild fun isn’t over for guests at Ocean Reef Resort. Along with the resort’s great swimming pools, guests can find a small water park filled with slides and other fun water activities right on the resort property. Going to this park is perfect whether you want to cool off after a long day on the beach or have a few hours to kill between two already planned activities.

Whether it be a few minutes away or just downstairs from your luxurious accommodations at the Ocean Reef, visiting a Myrtle Beach water park is sure to bring hours of fun, relief from the heat and plenty of memories that will last well beyond the end of your vacation.
