For an amazing night out with the family, spend it with knights and the royal family at Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament in Myrtle Beach.

Located in the Fantasy Harbor section of Myrtle Beach, Medieval Times is housed in a replica of an 11th century Spanish castle that may look out of place due to its authentic Middle Ages appearance. Patrons may feel like they've stepped back in time by 1,000 years to arrive at this unique venue, and the nostalgia for this romantic period in human history only grows as you enter the castle and become part of the show.

Pass through the castle gates and explore the period art-covered walls and the ornate halls that lead to the arena. Guests can visit the period-themed bar, hit the dance floor, and check out the Hall of Arms, a museum that displays medieval artifacts and torture devices, before heeding the sound of the horn for the start of the festivities.

As patrons enter the arena they get to meet and greet the cast of character actors who are part of the performance, including the king, queen and their court. Staying in character throughout the evening, the cast helps create an atmosphere that makes the show even more enjoyable and adds to the realism with accurate and dramatic performances.

Guests can pose for photos with the actors, and some lucky patrons are declared royal subjects during opening ceremonies, such as birthday boys and girls, anniversary couples and other special guests. The age-appropriate pageantry involves trained horses, trumpeters and knighting rituals before the breathtaking displays of dueling, jousting, falconry and equestrian acts that captivate the audience.

Without issuing a full spoiler alert, the show features six knights in full regalia competing it various contests of skill and bravery. The plot line revolves around a romantic tale set in Medieval Spain as the warriors battle for the favor of the princess.  One after another they put on dazzling performances on the arena floor for all to see.

The audience also gets involved in the show after being treated to a feast fit for a king. Dinner service includes a four-course meal of tomato bisque soup, roasted chicken, sweet buttered corn, herb-basted potatoes, garlic bread and the pastry of the day for dessert. Tea, coffee and select beverages are served, and there is a full-service bar.

Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament features daily shows at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. during the summer. Tickets are $53.95 for adults, $26.95 for children ages 3-12, and children under the age of 3 are admitted free if they sit on an adult’s lap and share their meal. Reservations are recommended and guests are asked to arrive more than an hour prior to show time so they can enjoy all the unique amenities Medieval Times has to offer.

For families that enjoy the concept of dinner and show but aren’t into the Medieval theme, there are other venues that offer similarly entertaining performances in a different setting. Pirates Voyage in Myrtle Beach provides a family-friendly, action-packed adventure on the high seas. Other non-dining theater venues, such as Carolina Opry, the Alabama Theatre, the Palace Theatre and Legends in Concert, also offer quality off-Broadway shows.
