Take a wild ride while sitting in your movie seat at Ripley's 5-D Moving Theater in the heart of downtown Myrtle Beach. Giving new meaning to the term “motion picture,” this high-tech theater lets your mind provide the feelings of moving, falling, flying and more – all while safely strapped in to a comfortable chair that adds to the experience.

Located in the heart of the downtown district, this one-of-a-kind attraction is one part movie theater and one part thrill ride, using the latest in computer graphics and digital technology to create futuristic special effects. You may have seen some of the same advancements featured in the award-winning movie “Avatar,” a science-fiction film that broke the mold for computer-generated virtual reality. Ripley's Moving Theater incorporates the same 5-D (five dimensional) technology to give patrons an adrenaline-pumping experience while sitting on their back sides.

Ripley's Moving Theater provides thrills and chills in a safe and fun environment. Passengers are safely buckled into their seats, which move along to the action on the big screen to create the illusion of rapid motion. Experience the feeling of riding on a speeding roller coaster, racing sports cars around a steep mountain layout, floating over the edge of a huge waterfall while watching the first-person footage on the screen. Feel your body involuntarily react to all the action, and the special seats even provide the sound and rocking movements to trick your brain into thinking you are there.

Featuring a 5-D virtual-reality simulator with a six-channel digital surround-sound system, Ripley's state-of-the-art Motion Master System features 70-millimeter film synched up to computer-controlled hydraulics that can move the entire theater. Shake in your seat as the rumble of the engines and actions on the screen create a real-life experience. You might even feel the breeze blowing through your hair while flying, or a small splash of water when going over the falls – all part of the virtual-reality show at Ripley’s Moving Theater.

Offering a wide selection of movies and experiences, you can come back time after time and never take the same ride twice. Ripley’s Moving Theater features a variety of new movies showing off the latest technology while also re-running some of the crowd favorites. For those with a weak stomach, the theater also offers non-moving films so visitors of all ages can take advantage of the impressive technology first hand without going through the scary ride.

Other Ripley’s attractions include the Haunted Adventure, Mirror Maze and the famed Believe It Or Not Museum – all located on the same city block just across from the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk. Guests can receive discounted admission by purchasing combo passes to other Ripley's attractions in the area, including the Ripley’s Aquarium at Broadway at the Beach. Patrons can experience the thrills of the Moving Theater, the chills of the Haunted Adventure, the confusion of the Mirror Maze and explore the diversity of life under the sea at these Ripley’s attractions for a discounted price.

Ripley's Moving Theatre is open Sundays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., and it is open until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets are $13.99 for adults, $7.99 for children and kids 5 and younger are free, although only those 43 inches or taller are permitted to view the moving ride. The attraction is located at 915 North Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach, just across from Plyler Park and the free concerts and fireworks shows that are held downtown during the summer months.
