This trail run series is an adrenaline athlete’s dream, with trails like you have never seen before in a beach town, and an experience that you will definitely not want to miss out on.

XTERRA is a world-renowned race company that organizes running, biking and triathlon events in some of the world’s toughest terrains, such as in the desert, the mountains and cold-weather environments. While Myrtle Beach may not seem like the best place to find the kind of challenging terrain the XTERRA team seeks out, one particular spot on the Grand Strand does a good job of fitting the bill. In its search all over the state, XTERRA stumbled upon the Horry County Bike and Run Park.

Known as “The Hulk” to many, the Horry County Bike and Run Park is a hiker’s and athlete’s wonderland. The park, jam-packed with various hilly nature trails, struck the XTERRA team as an ideal spot for the Grand Strand edition of its trail run event.

Often compared to a roller coaster due to the single-track course’s many ups and downs, the Hulk trail race will definitely put anyone’s fitness level to the test. While running along the park’s 7 miles of trail, participants may forget they are close to Myrtle Beach’s flat, sandy beaches. Runners will experience climbs up muddy, steep hills, followed by the major g-force that awaits on the way down. Pair those hills with twist and turns, and you just might feel like you are going downhill on one of the many waterslides featured at the local resorts not far away!

In partnership with XTERRA, the Myrtle Beach Triathlon Club helps organize this event by assisting with course planning, making each year’s course different so that the race experience varies from year to year. In an effort to make the race series as open and enjoyable as many members of the family as possible, this year’s event includes: 5k, 10k, 20k and 50k options.

So, whether you are looking for a challenging a race against others or just a fun place to change up your vacation’s running circuit, the Grand Strand can accommodate. Head on over to the Myrtle Beach Triathlon Club website for more information on this extraordinary race, and learn more about the Horry County Bike and Run Park at its official website. The Hulk will be sure to deliver a challenge anytime, and the XTERRA event will bring a large group of your fellow trail-running enthusiasts together for some friendly competition.

After your trail run or day at the race, head back to your home away from home at Ocean Reef Resort, where you can rest up for your next day of adventure on the Grand Strand.
