Top 5 Rainy Day Activities in Myrtle Beach

Every once in awhile, rainy days happen, even when you’re on vacation. But the advantage of picking a great all-around vacation destination like Myrtle Beach is that your trip isn’t a wash out just because you encountered some bad weather. There’s still tons to do!

Here’s a quick list of our top five favorite rainy day activities:

1.    WonderWorks

Kids tend to love waterworks from the first sight of the iconic upside down building at Broadway at the Beach. And it’s basically stuffed with fun, with an imaginative take on the place where science and play meet.

There are tons of interactive exhibits, an “anti-gravity chamber,” places where you can explore the power of nature by seeing footage and learning more about famous natural disasters, and you can even play with a Tesla coil! There’s also a chance to upgrade your ticket and play Lazer-Tag or play games in the video arcade. It’s a great place to pass a rainy day!

2.    Ripley’s Aquarium

From the Discovery Center to Rainbow Rock, there’s tons to explore at Ripley’s Aquarium. We especially like the friendship flats, where you can reach out and touch stingrays, and the dangerous reef, where you can see sharks up-close.

3.    Tour Atalaya

Huntington Beach State Park south of Myrtle Beach is a great place to explore, and on rainy days, a tour of Atalaya can be just what’s in order. The wet weather is actually a great accompaniment to the historic Spanish-style castle.

4.    New South Brewing tour

If the people you’re traveling with are 21 and older and have any interest in craft beer, the New South Brewing tour is a fun way to pass an afternoon. Every Tuesday and Thursday from 3 to 5:30 p.m., you can tour the brewery and taste the delicious beer being made right here in Myrtle Beach.

5.    Shopping!

There are plenty of places to go shopping in Myrtle Beach when it’s rainy. There’s Broadway at the Beach and the Coastal Grande Mall of course, but we also have two great outlet malls, the Tanger outlets on Hwy. 501 near Carolina Forest and on Hwy. 17 on the north end of Myrtle Beach.

These are just a few ideas, there are tons more! And of course you can still swim and have fun when it’s raining if you stay at Ocean Reef Resort, that’s the beauty of our indoor pools!
