What to Pack for Fall in Myrtle Beach

If you’re planning your first trip to Myrtle Beach in the fall, the first thing you should know is that you’re in for a treat. The crowds thin out, the traffic is more manageable, and you get great rates on your Myrtle Beach hotels. And often, the weather is great—mild and sunny is the norm through the majority of the fall.

But what to pack? Here are a few tips:

•    Bring your bathing suit!

Not only can water temps in the Atlantic stay in the 70s until October, but when you stay at Island Vista, you can also enjoy outdoor and indoor water amenities that stay open until November!

    Plan for layers

The average high temperature in September in Myrtle Beach is 85 Fahrenheit,  and October’s average high is 77—even November only cools down to 69! You might run into a chilly front though, especially when you’re out in the evening, so it’s a good idea to pack layers. A tank plus a T-shirt plus a sweater or jacket will get you through almost any temperature you’ll encounter in Myrtle Beach.

•    Prepare for rain

A rain shell or compact umbrella are good ideas, as rain showers do tend to move through Myrtle Beach in late summer and early fall—though they get less likely as we move into winter. Luckily though, our showers tend to keep moving, thanks to ocean breezes.

•    Bring your walking shoes

One of the things we love most about Myrtle Beach in the fall is the fact that the crowds thin. So plan on spending plenty of time in places you might find too crowded in the thick of summer, like the Myrtle Beach boardwalk or Broadway at the Beach. Both are open for business in the fall, so you can wander to your heart’s content without feeling crowded.
