Heading to the Grand Strand gives vacationers the opportunity to enjoy not only the natural wonders of the Carolina Coast – such as the region’s 60 miles of white-sand beaches, its numerous inland waterways and wetlands, and its range of parks and gardens – but also an impressive collection of man-made attractions, too. While the Myrtle Beach area’s list of unnatural wonders is a long one that includes the signature Myrtle Beach SkyWheel, multiple amusement parks and water parks, and an array of theaters, museums and other entertainment hot spots, perhaps the most “beach trip” way to cut loose on your Grand Strand getaway is by hitting top speeds at the go-kart track and letting the salty air blow through your hair.

Myrtle Beach is home to a pair of exciting go-kart tracks where you and your vacation crew can rev up the fun and kick the good times into high gear. So the next time you feel the need for speed, head for one of these high-octane attractions and enjoy some friendly competition to see who can be the first to reach the checkered flag:

Broadway Grand Prix – Located on the Highway 17 Bypass about 5 miles south of Ocean Reef Resort and just across from the Broadway at the Beach shopping/dining/entertainment complex, this go-kart racing complex offers seven tracks, with options suited to all skill levels. Highlights include the Grand Prix Pro Track, where drivers can hit speeds up to 20 miles per hour while racing through the quarter-mile track’s challenging twists and turns; the High Bank Oval with its high banking and sharp turns; the Slick Track for some drifting action on a polished surface; and the short Speed racer track where drivers can floor it for high-velocity fun. Options for the younger set include the Family Track, where single or double riders can enjoy navigating the long course; the 200-foot Junior Racer track built for beginners looking to take the wheel; and the Kids Track made just for the little ones. Beyond the pavement, other attractions at Broadway Grand Prix include two 18-hole mini-golf courses; a 20,000-square-foot arcade; a rock-climbing wall; the Bumper Cars; the Sky Coaster, which takes riders harnessed to a cable high into the air for some high-speed swinging fun; and a Kids Zone filled with a collection of amusement rides for the smallest visitors. For more information on this family-friendly attraction, visit the Broadway Grand Prix website.

The Track – This Restaurant Row racetrack located on North Kings Highway about 3 miles north of Ocean Reef Resort puts the focus on “Fun … Elevated” with a pair of multi-level, elevated go-kart tracks. As The Track’s signature course, the Wild Woody takes drivers up three and a half elevated stories before dropping them back down to ground level at high speeds in their single- and double-seated electric karts. On the Mighty Myrtle, which also features single- and double-seated electric karts, drivers climb up three stories on a course filled with loops and curves for fast-paced fun. Two additional courses at The Track cater exclusively to younger drivers – the Kiddie Karts circular track for riders between 3 feet, 6 inches and 4 feet in height, and the Rookie Karts circular track for riders between 4 feet tall and 4 feet, 8 inches in height. The family-friendly attraction also features a Kid Rides area with a carousel, a Beach Buggies jump-around ride and a soon-to-open Red Baron Planes ride that lets kids soar up, down and around in a circular path. Additionally, Fat Daddy’s Arcade features 75 fun-for-all-ages video games and ticket-redemption challenges in an air-conditioned space. For more information an all the dun activities available, visit The Track’s website.

After hitting high speeds on the go-karts and enjoying some of these attractions’ other fun activities, head back to your comfortable oceanfront accommodations at Ocean Reef Resort to rest up for another day of adventure on the Grand Strand. Book your family vacation at Ocean Reef today!
