If you’re like most vacationers, you probably love to discover new-to-you, delicious dishes and new-favorite restaurants when you visit the Grand Strand. And with more than 1,700 restaurants found up and down our 60-mile stretch of the Carolina coast, there are plenty of opportunities to do just that — in fact, far more options than anyone could reasonably expect to visit over even decades of vacationing here.

And while it’s nearly impossible to try them all, there is a way to sample the best dishes from dozens of the area’s top restaurants in a single evening — all without spending a fortune and driving all over town. Set for Tuesday, October 9, 2018, from 4 to 10 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, the 35th Annual Taste of the Town will bring together 40-plus of the area’s finest restaurants, all serving their most popular offerings in a sampling-friendly tapas style.

Founded in 1984 as a fundraiser for St. Andrew Catholic School, Taste of the Town has grown to become the Grand Strand’s premier culinary event. In addition to the food sampling — for which attendees stroll among the booths and purchase the food items with tickets — other offerings include live music and a silent auction. Awards are presented in categories including Best Entrée, Best Dessert, Best Booth Design, People’s Choice and Kids’ Choice, and each participating restaurant is allowed to submit just one entrée and/or one dessert to be judged for the awards — so you can rest assured that the competitors will bring their very best!

Wondering what kind of delectable dishes you might find at a foodie mecca like Taste of the Town? As an example of the delights on tap, consider last year’s top winners:

·      Best Entrée: LUNA Mexican Bar & Grill — Ahi Tuna Ceviche

·      Best Dessert: Rita’s Ice Custard Happiness — Blend of Custard and Ice with Topping of Hot Syrup

·      People’s Choice, Favorite Restaurant (Entrée): Famous Toastery

·      People’s Choice, Favorite Restaurant (Dessert): Strong Waters Craft Cocktails & Kitchen

·      Kids’ Choice, Favorite Restaurant (Entrée): AJ's Pizza

·      Kids’ Choice, Favorite Restaurant (Dessert): Melting Pot

Admission to Taste of the Town is $5 in advance, or $6 at the door. Food tickets are sold for $1 each, with each menu item costing between one and five tickets. All event proceeds benefit St. Andrew Catholic School and are used to fund projects such as playground upgrades, facility maintenance and new technology. It’s a great cause, and the menu offerings are diverse and delicious!
