With summer winding down and schools back in session, you may think that all of the summer festival fun is over in the Myrtle Beach area. While the Grand Strand does see fewer tourists and vacationers as the cooler fall weather begins to set in, there are still plenty of fall festivals to attend in Myrtle Beach and the smaller surrounding towns. Here’s a list of three of the Grand Strand’s biggest and most popular fall festivals to visit during your stay at Ocean Reef Resort:
Aynor Harvest Hoe-Down – Looking to raise funds in support of community projects, the Pilot Club of Aynor, South Carolina, held its first Harvest Hoe-Down in 1979, and the inaugural event featured a few local vendors and a welcome speech from the back of a pick-up truck. Nearly four decades later, Aynor is still throwing down, but with a whole lot more vendors, more fun family attractions and even a small parade through the grounds! Set for Saturday, September 16, this year’s Hoe-Down will feature a pair of beauty pageants, live music from local school groups and choirs, parades featuring floats and antique cars, plenty of arts & crafts vendors, and so much more!
Little River ShrimpFest – Taking place October 14 and 15, the Little River ShrimpFest is loaded with live entertainment, fun activities, plenty of music and, of course, shrimp! Located just south of the North Carolina border, the small town of Little River has been coordinating this event on its historic waterfront for 13 years now, and it just keeps on getting bigger — now with over 150 different local vendors, lots of fun family activities such as face painting and playgrounds, and restaurants putting their best foot forward to present their finest and freshest seafood dinners.
Loris Bog-Off Festival – Another long-running festival filled with great food is the 38th annual Loris Bog-Off Festival, set for October 21 this year. Some of you might be wondering what a bog is. It’s a dish resembling gumbo, but it usually doesn’t include seafood and has a little less Cajun spice. With loads of good food to sample, fun family activities and live entertainment, this festival is always a highlight among the locals — so it’s the perfect way to spend a great fall day!
Whether you’re attending one of these great fall festivals in the smaller towns of the Grand Strand’s or one of the many events held during the fall in Myrtle Beach, you’re sure to have a great time with the fall’s smaller crowds and cooler temperatures. We look forward to hosting your next fall getaway at oceanfront Ocean Reef Resort, Myrtle Beach!
