Family traditions should be, at their core, user-friendly.
Simple, but memorable. Some are no-brainers (seafood night) and some are location-specific (the Boardwalk.) And they’re best when made for vacation.
Here are awesome ways to create family traditions in Myrtle Beach.
- Pick the best time of year to go and stick to that each year
Some consider it a cruel summer if it doesn’t contain a beach getaway. Others would rather save that coastal escape for the offseason. Find the season that fits your family best — and make a vacation of it.
Take a weekend trip to the Grand Strand every season if you can. That’s the best way to see which is your favorite.
- Eat seafood one night
Is it reckless to eat pizza and burgers while you’re on a beach vacation? Of course not, but if your family enjoys seafood, this place is a wealth of restaurants. Stick to one establishment or skip around. This could be the most delicious tradition of them all.
Captain George’s Seafood Restaurant feels like it would have great food. It’s got a seafaring theme and delicious fare.
- Beach portraits with the Family
One way to get the kids to skedaddle — threaten a family picture! When you’re on the beach, though, it hits differently. Get everyone for a moment of CHEESE by the waves, by the dunes, or with a pier as your backdrop.
Have fun. The photos you have of the kids from the department store photo department are formal. Let these be the ones where personality sticks out.
- Check out Broadway at the Beach
Chill out at the cafe in a place like Social Coffee Shop. Choose a cool one to let fly at the beach at Klig’s Kites. Order a round of sharables for lunch at Bar Louie. There’s always something fun and new to do at Broadway at the Beach.
See Myrtle Beach from a fresh new perspective: from hundreds of feet above. Helicopter Adventures takes off from Broadway at the Beach. Catch a ride!
- Head to the Boardwalk for some fun and attractions
Get out and move where the fun is on the Boardwalk. Find your way out of Ripley’s Mirror Maze together. Stop in for a treat at SweetFrog Frozen Yogurt. Update your beach apparel at Surfs Up Beach Shop.
You can do so much at Pier 14. Walk on the pier, fish off the pier, and have dinner on the pier. It’s a great place for photos, too.
- Sunset or sunrise walks on the beach
A sunrise or sunset is the prescription to reload your serenity. The sun will set behind the city, but golden hour sunlight is yours on the beach. A sunrise stroll reveals incredible colors and tranquility you must experience.
Arrive for sunrise 20 minutes before the sun comes up. Check this site for sunrise times on the day you’re going. It’ll be so worth it.
