6 Reasons to Plan a Fall Getaway to Myrtle Beach

On the Grand Strand, it’s natural that summer tends to get all the attention from the tourists, who flock to our 60-mile stretch of the Carolina coast when school lets out to make some great family memories at the beach. And there’s good reason why summer is the area’s peak season — the year’s warmest months provide loads of opportunities for family-friendly fun and classic beach activities in the Myrtle Beach area.

But savvy travelers know — and the locals can attest — that the fall is an excellent time to visit the Grand Strand, too. Consider these six top reasons to plan your Myrtle Beach getaway during the autumn months:

The Weather — When fall sets in on the Grand Strand, the temperatures tend to decline a bit — making for downright pleasant conditions for outdoor ventures. In September, the average high in the Myrtle Beach area is 84 degrees, while October’s is 76 degrees and November’s is 68 degrees. The average number of days with rainfall drops a bit from an August high of nine, too, with September seeing an average of six days with rainfall, October dropping to five, and November seeing an annual low of four.

Thinner Crowds — Of course, since peak season has already passed in Myrtle Beach, the crowds on the beaches and at the area’s top attractions thin out as the fall season moves on. Head to the shoreline for a day of relaxing in the sun and sand with some added elbow room, and hit the Grand Strand’s most popular attractions without the longer lines and bigger crowds typical of the summer season.

More Savings — With fewer visitors that what’s typically seen during the summer season, local businesses tend to offer more discounts and savings for fall visitors. At Ocean Reef Resort on the Myrtle Beach oceanfront, our fall-focused specials include deals like our Fall Weekday Super Saver, our Fall Inspiration Sale and our Free Fall Nights special — visit out Specials page to learn more!

Reduced Wait Times — For fall visitors who like to get out and about on the Grand Strand, hitting the hottest restaurants and biggest attractions becomes more approachable, as lines are shorter (and often even nonexistent), wait times are significantly reduced, and more tables are available. See all the sights and enjoy all the best meals with more space and time to take it all in.

Fall Festivals — Fall is a popular time for festivals and special events on the Grand Strand, and there’s something for everyone in the autumn lineup. Head for the Carolina coast in the fall to catch fun events like the St. John’s Greek Festival, the Atalaya Arts & Crafts Festival, the Little River ShrimpFest and the Loris Bog-Off Festival, just to name a few.

Sun & Fun Rewards — Making a good thing even better, Ocean Reef’s Sun & Fun Rewards programs features a great lineup in the fall, with perks like free admission to Ripley’s Aquarium, WonderWorks and Brookgreen Gardens on tap September 4 through November 30.
