When most of us think of New Year’s celebrations, boisterous parties that last into the wee hours and feature big crowds, loud music and plentiful libations may spring to mind. And obviously, soirees such these tend to be adults-only affairs.
But of course, the younger set likes to ring in the new year, too. And on the Grand Strand, there are plenty of opportunities for families to ring in the new year in kid-friendly fashion. (Though, as you might expect, these festivities are rarely still in full swing when the clock strikes midnight and the new year actually begins.)

Fireworks at Broadway at the Beach
At Myrtle Beach shopping/dining/entertainment hot spot Broadway at the Beach, families are more than welcome to join the New Year’s festivities — and they’ll want to keep their eyes toward the skies on the big night. That’s because a New Year’s Eve fireworks show will illuminate the heavens over Lake Broadway beginning at 8 p.m. (weather permitting) as the new year closes in.
Fireworks at Barefoot Landing
Farther north at Barefoot Landing, a popular North Myrtle Beach destination known for its impressive collection of shops, restaurants and entertainment-focused attractions, a New Year’s Eve pyrotechnics show will light up the skies over the complex’s 27-acre lake beginning at 7 p.m. (weather permitting) — and kids are more than welcome to join the festivities.

The Myrtle Beach area is known for its world-class collection of entertainment venues, and many of them put on spectacular shows on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day that can deliver fun for the whole family. Some of the area highlights include:
– The Carolina Opry Christmas Special, Dec. 31 at 7 p.m.
– The South’s Grandest Christmas Show at the Alabama Theatre, Dec. 31 at 3 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
– Pirates Voyage Christmas Show, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 at 6 p.m.
– Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, Dec. 31 at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., Jan. 1 at 4:30 p.m.
– Top of the World: A Carpenters Christmas Show, Jan. 1 at 7 p.m.
Nights of a Thousand Candles
Send off 2023 with a serene evening stroll through Murrells Inlet’s majestic Brookgreen Gardens — while the grounds’ walking paths are illuminated by the soft glow of 2,700-plus hand-lit candles and millions of sparking lights for the final showing of Nights of a Thousand Candles on December 31 from 4 to 9 p.m. And to top off the outing, warm cider will be served and holiday music will fill the air.
