Formed in London in 1970, British rock band Queen can be credited with creating some of American rock radio’s most recognizable hits. For example, we can all thank lead singer Freddie Mercury and company for iconic sing-along favorites like “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Somebody to Love,” “We Will Rock You,” “Another One Bites the Dust,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” and many more. And with the recent success of the multiple Academy Award-winning 2018 film “Bohemian Rhapsody,” a biographical film about the British band, Queen is currently enjoying a resurgence in its already legendary status and popularity.

For those who love Queen’s music but never got a chance to see the band live, Myrtle Beach’s Carolina Opry has a real treat in store this summer. Fans of Queen lucky enough to be vacationing on the Grand Strand in late July will get a chance to see the closest thing going to a live Queen concert, as the North Kings Highway entertainment venue will be rolling out the red carpet for the world’s leading Queen tribute band on Sunday, July 21, 2019 — Killer Queen.

The similarities between the original Queen and this tribute band are at times uncanny. After coming together in 1993, Killer Queen began playing its first shows at London University — which is exactly where the original Queen had played its first shows just over two decades previous. And not only does Killer Queen sound like the original Queen, but the tribute band members’ visual resemblances to lead vocalist Freddie Mercury, guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor and bassist John Deacon will also have you doing double-takes. In fact, the tribute band is so convincing that, not long after playing its initial shows in the early ’90s, Killer Queen found itself touring the world and raking in awards — among them, the “Worldwide Best Tribute Band” award in 1999.

Consider these reviews Killer Queen has garnered from media members around world:

  • “No detail is overlooked. Killer Queen are kings of the musical impersonators, the highest of tributes.”
  • “Mirage or resurrection? You almost believe you were at Wembley Stadium back in 1986. Fabulous.”
  • “Very accurate. Almost frightening. … The best thing since Queen.”
  • “Concerts as near to the real thing as you’re likely to get. Freddie lives! A pop legend is back.”
  • “An absolutely fantastic show. I’ve never seen the arena explode with such an electric charge. A concert to remember.”
