Make a Splash for the Special Olympics at Polar Plunge Myrtle Beach

When most people think of Myrtle Beach, some of the first things that might spring to mind include warm ocean waters, bright sunshine, and beautiful coastal scenery such as palm trees and white-sand beaches. But one upcoming fundraiser hopes to turn these largely summertime-themed scenes on their head — and replace them with notions of cooler climes … and a worthy cause.
A Plunge-Worthy Cause
Set for Saturday, January 27, 2024, in Myrtle Beach, Polar Plunge Myrtle Beach is an annual event held to benefit the Special Olympics of South Carolina. The fundraiser sees participants “Freezin’ for a Reason” — those who raise at least $50 to support the Palmetto State’s Special Olympics athletes are invited to take a frigid plunge in the January Atlantic Ocean waters (along with participating in other fun activities during the event). And by doing so, they create added opportunities for dedicated athletes to reap the life-changing benefits that participation in the Special Olympics can bring.
How to Participate
Those who are interested in joining Polar Plunge Myrtle Beach start by asking friends, family members, neighbors, coworkers and other acquaintances to contribute to the cause — either by helping the Plunger reach his or her fundraising goal or by contributing to the Plunger’s team fundraising goal. Once the fundraising goal is met and the Plunger fills out a required waiver form, he or she is invited to enjoy the Polar Plunge event (and bring interested friends and family members along). In addition to the actual venture into the frigid ocean waters, the event features music, dancing, merchandise and lots of fun!
Schedule of Events
One the Polar Plunge Myrtle Beach event day, the day’s activities will be held at the Sands Ocean Club Resort at 9550 Shore Drive in Myrtle Beach — a location that’s a 10-minute drive north of Myrtle Beach’s Ocean Reef Resort. Four different plunge times will be available, with the event schedule as follows:
- 10 a.m. — Registration and Polar Plunge kickoff
- 10:30 a.m. — Early Plunge
- 11:30 a.m. — Pre-noon Plunge
- 12:30 p.m. — Afternoon Plunge
- 1:30 p.m. — Late Plunge
