Easy to learn and inexpensive to play, pickleball has been gaining serious momentum in the United States in recent years — sweeping the nation to the point where it can now officially be called a sporting craze. And of course, its predecessor and sporting cousin tennis is still as popular as ever … and it’s similarly simple to learn and approachable for players on a budget.

Grande Dunes Tennis Club

Located just 2.4 miles inland of Ocean Reef at 8821 Marina Parkway in Myrtle Beach, the Grande Dunes Tennis Club features 10 courts, eight of which can be lighted for night play. Nonmembers can play at the club twice a month (when courts are available, as club members get reservation priority) for a $20-per-day court-usage fee, with discounts available to groups of four or more players. Rivers Lynch Tennis Center

Found 4.7 miles south of Ocean Reef at 3200 Robert Grissom Parkway in Myrtle Beach, offers 10 tennis courts, eight of which can be lighted for night play. The center is open to the public and charges those who play there a nominal per-hour fee. For more information, call 843-918-2440.

Claire Chapin Epps Family YMCA

Located just 2.2 miles inland of Ocean Reef at 5000 Claire Chapin Epps Drive in Myrtle Beach, the Claire Chapin Epps Family YMCA offers three indoor pickleball courts with permanent court lines, and portable nets are also available. Pepper Geddings Recreation Center

Found 3.7 miles south of Ocean Reef at 3205 North Oak Street in Myrtle Beach, the Pepper Geddings Recreation Center is home to eight hard pickleball courts — four of them indoors and four of them outdoors. All of the courts have permanent court lines, and portable nets are also available.
